Sometimes it’s the portraits attached to a gravestone that provide the poignancy.

Grave markers can take many interesting forms, from a couch (or really a loveseat in this case) to one of my favorites, the large ball.

Other Forms

Having spanned the heyday of fraternal orders, there are many markers that make reference to some lodge or beneficial society or another. Here is a small sampling.

Brotherhood

Professional identity is another theme that characterizes some of Rosehill’s best memorials. The most famous of these honors George Bangs — “His crowning effort The Fast Mail.” But there are other good ones.
