Mapping the Promontory Point Rock Carvings

These maps show the distribution of carvings along the Promontory Point shoreline and where they cluster. Some of the most interesting carvings are called out in the detail maps. The numbers in the icons indicate roughly the number of blocks with carvings at that spot, not the number of carvings. (When there is no number next to a photo icon that means it’s a single block at that spot.) There are approximately 500 carvings lining the shore at Promontory Point, since many blocks include multiple carvings. These highlights represent a small sample of the total.

The densest clusters of carvings are on the southwest end, where there are several bathing beauties, and at the northwest end, where many carvings were added in 2022.

The locations shown in these maps are approximate and, at this point unverified. These maps are not yet ready for general public consumption.
