R.I.P. Car Talk’s Tom Magliozzi

Tom Magliozzi, of NPR’s Car Talk, was one of the most honest, funniest, kindest, smartest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. My favorite Tommy moment: A Cars.com team was meeting with the brothers at Car Talk Plaza early in our partnership and the person from our PR agency was going on about how we could get Tom and Ray on the TV morning shows. They could do it from Boston and would just have to wake up at 4:30 a.m. or so to get on the satellite. Tom stared at him and said “f— that s—“, and that was it for the broadcast PR plan. I’d also say it’s the real reason you rarely saw the brothers on TV, their faces made for radio notwithstanding.

OK shore here…WOW you really know how to hit my sweet spot….recall i’m from boston….born in daw-chester…raised in brookline, in the shadow of fenway…sold newspapers outside the park during my early teen years (yes, it was legal for 11-13 year olds to transact commerce!) and saw most every sox game possible…because so few people actually wanted to go to the games…got free tickets…scalped some…used others…(hey, scalping is legal today…it’s called Stub Hub e al)…..even saw the amazing TW play…and of course CY…
so to HEAR the brothers on can talk was nostalgia squared…especially since i CHOSE to emigrate to southern california in 1975 (TY Dear LORD)……they were so AUTHENTIC…SO BOSTON…SO ITALIAN…and the show was so Thoroughly AMERICA. only in this country.
